… and SOME people get to go to New Zeland

Hey guys!! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are looking forward to labor day! Hopefully everyone is settling back into the school schedules (except Cal Poly, of course).

Farmers market trips in the Fall is one of my earliest childhood memories (the Baywood market to be specific) my mom would pick me up from Sunnyside elementary and we’d stroll through the market and I’d beg her not to make stir fry 😂😂 (I was a macaroni and cheese kid). It’s fun to see all the kidlets experiencing the market and I’m always so impressed when they will try my soup!

Here’s what you will find at the soup booth this week:

Monday in Baywood, Thursday in Morro bay and Friday in cambria

1. Adzuki Bean and Barley (adzuki beans are little red beans, packed with nutrition, that taste like a kidney bean and feel like a lentil)

2. Heirloom Tomato Bisque

I look forward to seeing you guys and don’t forget your jars! Also, the lovely and talented soup assistant, Brian, will be on vacation for 12 days starting this Friday. Nate will be filling in on labor day but I’ll be flying solo the rest of the time so I apologize in advance if you have to wait a few extra minutes. Ill have bubbles available should the need arise.

Aaalllllso, I wanted to tell you that I had a dream on Friday night that I drowned in corn kernels. See you all soon.

All the fun

I had to take a moment this weekend to sit and be thankful for all the awesome activities the central coast provides. What a blessed life! The fun never stops and there is truely a grey area between work and fun and I just can’t tell you how thankful I am for all of YOU!!

Also, have you purchased a farmers market watermelon this year yet?! They are too good to be true.

Here’s what you will find at the soup booth this week:

I look forward to seeing you guys and don’t forget your jars!

About Mike: Mike and his wife, Betsey have been soup customers for years and one day, a few summers ago, Mike said that “vegetable barley” was a rather boring name for a soup so I asked him to suggest an alternative and, yep, you guessed it “Mike’s” Vegetable Barley was born.

Fogust

A happy central coast fogust to you guys! I am a happy happy girl in all this fog we’ve been having on the coast! It’s been fun meeting visitors who are traveling west to escape the inland heat, the markets have been filled with new faces! I love hearing about where travelers are coming from and where they are headed and it’s always an honor to be a little blip on their vacation.

The abundance continues at the markets with grapes, watermelons and corn all in full swing. The stone fruit is winding down over the next couple weeks so stock up while you still can!

Oh my goodness, you guys. The produce our farmers are bringing to market is the absolute best it’s ever been! I’ve been eating frozen grapes and watermelon all weekend long and my vegetable sandwiches have been off the hook!! Come to the markets and see for yourselves!!! Plus, this produce is headed right into my soups making them extra tasty and nutritious!

Corn ninja!

I’m planning on getting a really good night’s sleep tonight cause its corn chowder day tomorrow!!! (And all week) that means there’s corn to be shucked, potatoes to be chopped, and corn cob stock to be simmered!!

Did anyone go up to Big Sur since the highway opened? It sure has been full in town! My goodness!

Here’s what you will find at the soup booth this week:

Monday in Baywood, Thursday in Morro bay and Friday in cambria

1. Corn Chowder

2. Turkish Red Lentil (red lentils, lemon, carmelized onion and mint)

I look forward to seeing you guys and don’t forget your jars! Also thank You so much for adjusting to the elimination of the loaner jar program. It has really helped to offset costs and not have to raise the cost of the soup! Way to go everybody! Please continue to bring your own jars for the best deal!

Hope this works!!

So I’m reeeealy hoping my soup this week will come out the color I’m seeing in my head. I did a test run on a small scale over the weekend and it was a success but sometimes things are different when executed on a larger scale. The ingredients are superb so I’m confident in the flavor, bear with me on the color! Many thank yous to José from Cortez farms for finding me 100 lbs of purple carrots!!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Who’s planning to drive up the new hwy 1 next week?! The cambria market should be fun and filled with new faces! It opens on the 20th which is a Cambria market day! Manager Jeff is throwing a party and serving virgin “mudslides” which I think is super clever!

Here’s what you will find at the soup booth this week:

Monday in Baywood park, Thursday in Morro bay and Friday in Cambria

1. Creamy Purple Carrot

2. Moonstone Chili (I named it that because the beans I use remind me of the rocks on moonstone beach in Cambria)

I look forward to seeing you guys and don’t forget your jars! Also, I think I’ve almost convinced Brian to stay my soup both assistant (at least for the summer) I think he’s doing a really great job and I hope you think so too!
