Hey Guys, if you are following me on facebook (its under farmers market inspired soup) you may be aware of my new farmers market discovery of the non-GMO corn guy. He is currently attending 7 Central Coast farmers markets as he planted 6 acres or 100,000 plants which are ready for harvest now. His land is not certified organic but his is in process of doing so, his seed is all certified organic and non-GMO which, these days, is diffiult to come by in the corn world. The more I read about what genetic modifiation is doing to our food supply, the more I try to support people like Steve, the corn guy because every time you make a food purchase, you are in a sense “voting” for what direction you want our food maufaturing to head. Besides getting into the politics of it all, his corn is excellent…sure, you may buy a pet caterpillar with a few of your ears but who doesn’t want a pet caterpillar =)
And on to soup!
Monday in Baywood: non GMO corn chowder and Split Pea
Thursday in Morro Bay and Friday in Cambria: Heirloom Roasted Red Pepper and Turkish Bride Soup (red lentils with mint and brown rice)
I look forward to seeing you all and don’t forget your jars!
