fall has arrived

when I woke up this morning, I had a sudden desire to carve a pumpkin. I believe that fall has arrived and with it offshore wind, amazing waves, tons of sea life, and of course, butternut squash. Jack Mccall from McCall Farms in Cambria is making me patiently wait for his butternut to reach the peak of sweetness before he harvests them for some soup, he thinks it should be in the next couple of weeks though…so, something to look forward to! In the meantime, lets hold on to the last few weeks of the summer harvest with this weeks upcoming soups:

Monday in Baywood: Tom Kha Pak (coconut lemongrass) and Roasted Heriloom Tomato White Bean

Thursday in Morro Bay: Corn Chowder (thanks to Jack Gibson of Cambria who, at 90 years of age,  packed up 4 cases of his homegrown sweet corn for the soup), and Mung Bean and Wild Rice with Sundried Tomato and Fennel

Friday in Cambria: Corn Chowder and Mung Bean Wild Rice with Sundried Tomato and Fennel

I look forward to seeing you all and don’t forget your jars!
