Wasnt that a fantastic rainstorm on Friday!?! It lookin like its not over yet, so be sure to bring an umbrella to Monday’s market. Ill have my helper there again so you dont have to wait in line too long! Also, Thank You to those of you Cambrians who came out in the wind and rain to get soup last Friday! Help has arrived, Los Osos

My dear Los Osos (skip this part if you are a loyal Morro Bay or Cambria Farmers Market goer). Its long overdue and I appreciate your patience, but I have finally asked for help in serving you during the markets on Monday. Tomorrow you will meet Nicole, and Nicole will make the line go much faster =), also, I bought a new pot which can hold just about 20 more quarts of soup, so hopefully there will be soup for everyone! Please let me know if there is any other way I can serve you better.

Also, a note on the gluten. Last week’s experiment was a success in using brown rice in the soups. I have also recieved many suggestions from you wonderful folks about other possibilities for soup thickiners and Thank You all for those thoughts, I will put them to the test as well! Here is what I have decided. All the soups will be gluten free EXCEPT for the Mushroom Barley (and any soup which contains Barley for that matter) and also the Gnocchi Vegetable. Gnocchi contain a bit of wheat flour, but other than that my gluten free friends (I have recently joined your club as well), you are safe to eat the soups! Do be aware that if you are EXTREMELY SENSITIVE, I do share a kitchen with other folks who do use wheat, dairy, soy, corn, peanuts, tree nuts, and shellfish. I do use all my own pots and utencils though which are not shared with anyone else.

To Gluten or Not to Gluten

I know this is a horrible, blurry foto taken from a "stupid phone" but this is a huge mountian lion we saw on the way out to my parents ranch on Christmas Eve!

ok guys, I need your opinions! For the next couple of weeks I will be attmpting to make some of the soups I have typically thickened with whole wheat flour with brown rice instead. It turns out that many of you lovely soup customers are of the wheat and gluten free persuasion and I would like you to have some options! Heres where you come in, dear customer, please let me know if you do not like this change! Let me know if the texture is weird, or the flavor is off in any way. I have been doing some “at home” taste tests with much success, but alas (contrary to how my Mother raised me) its not all about me. So heres whats coming up this week, again, these soups will all be gluten free even though the ingredients lists claim whole wheat flour (I havent fully committed to changing it permanately until I hear from you!)

Monday in Baywood: Split Pea and Butternut Apple with Toasted Walnut Cream (please switch cashew cream for walnut cream on ingredients lists)…and “secret soup”* is lentil vegetable
*what is secret soup?: well, sometimes I am able to make a third batch of soup for you committed Los Osos Market People, but I dont have room for a third pot behind my regulation netting. so typically secret soup doesnt make its appearance until one of the other soups has sold out. It is, however, available…if you are in on the secret =).

Hi folks! I hope you guys all rang in the new year with a BANG!!! I know Cayucos certainly did…prioritizing sleep the way I do, I was awakened (joyfully) at midnight to the sound of the whole town celebrating 2012, I love group celebrations like that, anything that can bring us all together!

I also would like to apologize to those of you who depend on me having accurate updated information on this site, the past two weeks have been kinda funky. In my constant attempt to use locally grown products, things can get a little unpredictable. It all started with my big plan for cauliflower soup only to find out that none of the farmers had produced cauliflower that week…then, of course, following the cauliflower crisis of December, there seemed to be a lack of beets…BEETS! my goodness, what is happening in this world! So, of course out came Potato leek, because, potatoes, like a dear friend, are always there for you in a time of need. My point? bear with me during this winter harvest season, I will do my best to stay true to my written word and future soup predictions, but until the springtime harvests begin (which could be a while considering planet earth has decided she does not need rain or snow in the Northern hemisphere this year (moody brat)), please do not be alarmed if you find something other than what I had intended, I will be sure to update the site as soon as I can. And now, onto the 85% accurate soup forecast for the first week of 2012:

Well let me start off this week by saying how thankful I am for your loving and positive support of my business. For three years in rain, wind….and even those really hot days you have come with your jars and your smiles and for that I am so thankful everyday for your continuing support!
Ok! On to soups!

Monday in baywood : Thai pumpkin and Mung bean wild rice.
Im bringing some help with me tomorrow so hopefully your jars will be filled a little faster so you can get on with your holiday shopping. Feel free to drop your jars off between 115 and 145 to be filled …remember I can’t accept payment until after 2 pm but there’s no need to wait in line at that point.
